Healthy Diet is Healthy Skin: Eating green, non greasy food not only reduces your love handles, it also helps in giving that extra glow to your skin. Make it a point to incorporate lots of green leafy veggies, antioxidant rich foods like beans, berries, nuts etc. It is advised to go easy on carbonated drinks, coffee,tea, alcohol and try to drink at least one serving of green tea every day.

Water is the elixir of clear skin: Hydration is the key to good health intrinsically and extrinsically. Water helps wash out toxins that are key factors in damaging skin cells. Make it a point to drink 6 litres of water daily. It is advised to sip water every 15 minutes rather than downing 1 litre every three hours. As downing large amounts of water at a stretch has a negative impact on your metabolic system and it is hard on your kidney.

Stay away from sun: Lesser the exposure to harmful rays like UV-A UV-B , higher the longevity of healthy skin. Avoid venturing out in the sun without a good sunproof/sunscreen lotion. It drastically minimises the skin damage done by the harmful sun rays.

Reduce bath time: Spending long hours in the shower exposing one’s skin to hot, humid steam rips off the natural oil secreting glands from its lubricant. This makes the skin dry and scaly. Minimise bath time to 15 minutes and incorporate application of moisturiser in your daily routine.

Smoking and Drinking Cessation: Smoking causes injury not only to the lungs, it also is very harmful to the entire body. Avoid smoking and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Drinking causes puffiness and reduces skin hydration. This causes skin damages in the long run.

Skin Care Routine: Just the way self hygiene is a mandatory phenomenon, skin care routine is also equally important. It is suggested that you maintain a 3 step routine of Cleansing, Toning, Moisturising coupled with weekly scrubbing of dead cells and clean-up for blackhead removal.

Hydrating face packs and masks are a must for the longevity of clear skin.

Here are some of the basic masks to start with:

For Skin Lightening: Take 5-10 drops of lemon, curd 1 cup and honey 3 spoons. Mix them and apply evenly on face. Let dry for 5 minutes and wash off with cold water.

For Dead Cell Removal: Take milk cream 1 spoon, powdered oats, and blended half tomato. Take the mixture and apply evenly. Wait for 5 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water.

For Tan Removal: Take blended tomato, half cup curd and 5 drops of lemon. Apply the mixture evenly on the face. Let it rest for 10 minutes and wash off with cold water.
