Most often we shrug off skin itches and rashes as an innocent itch which will go away on its own. Sometimes we get lucky as the rash heals itself and sometimes we end up making it worse.

Dermatologists these days encounter various types of skin diseases, with growing advancements in technology, we can treat almost all skin conditions. Some of the severe conditions if cannot be treated can at the least be curbed.

Here is a list of Common Skin conditions that is treated by dermatologists on a daily basis.
ACNE: It is a condition of the skin where the sebaceous gland is on overdrive due to hormonal imbalance and stress. The pores of the skin are clogged. It causes pimples, redness, swelling and increased temperature of the skin. It usually affects teenagers and sometimes is also carried on into adulthood.

The medical condition is called Acne Vulgaris and it is mostly seen on the cheeks, forehead, chin , chest and back.

Athlete’s Foot: It is a fungal infection that affects the in-between of the toes. It causes itching, burning sensation and stinging. It is primarily caused due to retention of moisture on the skin.

Moisture retention on the feet occurs during sweating on the feet, wearing unwashed socks, unhygienic foot maintenance etc This behaves as a breeding ground for fungi to grow.

Cold Sores: The herpes simplex virus can cause blisters which are commonly known as cold sores. It can occur almost anywhere on the skin. The most common places it appears are on the nose, angle of the mouth, genitals and anal region.

It is caused by unprotected sexual intercourse.

Dandruff: It is caused by fungal infection of the scalp. Its symptoms include dry flaky skin, itching, hair loss etc

Dandruff can be treated with antifungal shampoos, creams and hairwashes.

Wheals: It is associated with pink discolored swelling and it usually occurs in clusters. It is also known as hives. Each wheal lasts for 4-5 hours before fading away. It leaves no trace. These hives usually itch, sting and burn.

It is usually caused due to allergic reactions to food, drugs and other triggers.

Psoriasis: It is a persistent skin disease which causes redness. Thick patches covered with silvery scales.

It usually affects the face, elbow, scalp, chest back and hands.

Rashes: It is often referred to as dermatitis. It is caused due to various reasons ranging from allergies, contact allergies, food allergies, stress, prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures etc.

Skin Cancer: This is also known as abnormal growth of skin cells. It is rapid proliferation of abnormal skin cells. Cancer can develop on any part of the skin. It is not mandatory that you develop cancer on the skin exposed to sun.

Warts & Skin Tags: A wart is caused by viral infection on the surface of the skin. It usually is found on the hard or thick skin.

Skin tags are extra growth of the skin to form flaccid, soft layers of skin. It looks like vestigial skin.
