Thousands of people converge here to bask in the spirit of the festivities. This year we need to particularly avoid it. Large gatherings are one of the most common ways that COVID-19 is transmitted.So what should you do? Plan parts at your own home! Christmas will be even more fun with your loved ones near you. Invite your closest family members and friends and celebrate with them. Avoid inviting people who are likely to have been exposed to COVID. Also, it is best for high-risk people such as those with hypertension, diabetes, or cardiovascular illnesses to stay away from all gatherings.If you are going out maintain COVID protocolIf you are going out to the movies or restaurants and bars with your friends or colleagues, you will come in contact with a lot of people. So the risk of getting infected exists. You can avoid that by following the COVID protocol. Wear your mask at all times. You may be tempted to take them off especially because during the party season we wear our best outfits and masks can ruin the effect! However, just remember, masks are your first line of defence. At the eateries or bars, only take off your mask when the food arrives. Sanitize your hands every few minutes. Choose movie theatres/ restaurants/ bars that have a reputation for maintaining impeccable hygiene. Also, try to maintain social distancing as much as possible. Learn to say no to peer pressureYou understand how important COVID precautions are right now, but others may not be as responsible as you. They may tempt you to attend large parties. You need to say no as much for your sake as for your loved ones. Self-isolationIf you feel like you have been exposed to the virus when you were out celebrating, you should do the responsible thing and isolate yourself. It is important to stay segregated for at least 7 days because symptoms generally show up in 6 days after exposure. You need to adopt this measure especially if there are senior citizens or people with comorbidities in your home. This year has not been easy on any of us.
